Blue Springs church reaches out through its dedication to mission work Mission work has become one of the cornerstones of our church – it is present nearly year-round and available to nearly all ages and stages within our congregation. In June, First United Methodist was presented with an “All-Star Mission Award” at the Missouri Annual Conference. Our participation in missions earned the Galaxy award. Each year, our youngest mission teams do work in the Kansas City metro area, first learning the fulfillment that comes from helping others in need close to home. As they get older, our teams venture out into other parts of Missouri, where they begin to gain a bigger picture of how our community and our congregation are connected to the larger world. Older youth have opportunities to visit other states; and adults work wherever they’re needed – even in Costa Rica and Mozambique. MISSION TRIPS FOR 2008 Our church has an outstanding ministry in missions from reStart and Hillcrest Ministries to the local Community Services League. Our missions’ ministry includes the mission trips for youth and adults. 2008 will be another excellent year for mission trips. You are invited to participate.
This year the high school youth will be able to take two trips. June 10 – 14 a high school mission team will travel to Monticello, Iowa and help with community projects as part of the Pictured Rocks United Methodist Camp & Retreat. The other trip will be June 21 – 29 to Newberry, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. On the Michigan trip the youth will be working with the God’s Country Cooperative Parish on local small-scale construction projects. Any high school youth is welcome to participate in the trips and doesn’t have to be a member of our church.
