MEMBERSHIP in United Methodist Women is open to any woman who chooses to belong, is committed to the PURPOSE, and is willing to be involved in global mission through United Methodist Women by supporting the work of the society each year through prayer, giving and service.

Through the majority of members of the United Methodist Women will also be members of the United Methodist Church, membership is open to any woman who chooses to fulfill the conditions of membership, Only the president is required to be a member of the United Methodist Church.

    SPECIAL SERVICE PROJECTS

    DELLA LAMB NEIGHBOR HOUSE:
    This is a social service center located at 500 Woodland in Kansas City. They offer daycare for children, well-baby clinic, family planning clinic, sewing and craft classes, adult education classes, golden age groups, summer activities, etc. many individual members donate their time talents and money to help with these services. Circles also undertake service to the Lamb.

    Their special needs include - schools supplies (pencils, paint sets, etc.), good used clothing (all ages), emergency food (canned meats, spaghetti ... cash donations for food), diapers, sanitary napkins, soap, shampoo, boxes of tissue.


    SPOFFORD HOME:
    Located at 9700 Grandview Road in Kansas City, this is a residential center for emotionally disturbed boys and girls from four to twelve years of age. Most children stay at Spofford home from two to three years.

    Their needs include - hair ribbons, tube socks, paper towels, wide-lined notebook paper, hair brushes, batteries (C-D-AAA). We also collect Campbell Soup Labels.


    NEWHOUSE FOR BATTERED WOMEN: (and children):
    This is a shelter for battered women and children. They offer shelter, food, clothing and safety, as well as counseling for women and children who are in need. They have recently added a drug support group. Their HOT LINE NUMBER is (816) 471-5800 and the business number is (816) 474-6446.

    Continuing needs include - clothing, sanitary items, paper goods, soap, toilet goods, toothbrushes and toothpaste, canned soups, tuna, boxed dinners, dry milk, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, sheets, alarm clocks, towels and washcloths.


    WE CARE:
    This is a service both monetary and physical, serving local needy residents or community causes. It is funded through the yearly budget of our United Methodist Women.


    reStart:
    This homeless shelter also gives housing to single mothers and their children until they are able to support themselves.

    Their special needs include meals, personal care items, clothing and especially new underwear for men and women.


    SERVICES PROVIDED BY
    UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

    FUNERAL DINNERS:
    Dinner is served for the family of members of our church who have lost loved ones who live in their home. This service is provided by a committee composed of representatives from each circle, under the direction of Carol Orndorff.


    WEDDING RECEPTIONS:
    The circles rotate in their responsibility to serve wedding receptions for those requesting the service. Funds received from wedding receptions go into the United Methodist Women's treasury.


    KITS:
    Circles often provide various kits for Festival of Sharing, an ecumenical ingathering of funds and material resources across the state to respond to hunger, poverty and crisis in Missouri and across the world. New pamphlets are available yearly.


    SPECIAL MISSION FUNDS

    The six areas of UNDESIGNATED GIVING

      1. PLEDGE
      2. CORSAGE FOR MISSIONS - a wonderful way of saying "Thank You" to someone. They may be purchased from local UMW Treasure or from those assisting at special events. They are available for $1, $5, $10, $16.
      3. WORLD THANK OFFERING - 1 cent per day, per member, There is a special day during the year when Thank Offering boxes are collected locally.
      4. GIFTS TO MISSION CARDS - for special days ... thank you, birthday, congratulations, new baby and missionary. Baby memberships are given by First's United Methodist women in honor of new babies born to local UMW members. Each membership is $5 and is sent to missions.
      5. GIFTS IN MEMORY - sent through the Treasure with beautiful card available. Minimum is $5.
      6. SPECIAL MISSION RECOGNITION - each year First's United Methodist Women recognize a member or special friend with a pin and gift to mission. There are other special recognitions that start at $30.
